Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday, November 15, 2024, commended the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) for calling out President Willaim Ruto’s regime.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, Kalonzo said that the Kenya Kwanza administration had corroded the basic core principles of the Kenyan people.
“We commend the Catholic Bishops for calling out this rogue regime on its unethical dealings with the people of Kenya that are corroding the basic core values that we cherish as a Kenyan people,” Kalonzo said.
This came against the backdrop of the criticism of the government unleashed by the Catholic bishops over unfulfilled promises, lies, and human rights violations, including abductions.
Unfulfilled promises
Addressing the press on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the men of cloth went all out to castigate the Kenya Kwanza administration, claiming that they have failed to uphold integrity and have resolved to spew lies on major issues affecting the nation.
“The culture of lies is swiftly replacing the integrity and respect that Kenyans deserve. Basically, it seems that truth does not exist, and if it does, it is only what the government says.
“Unfortunately, it seems that the Kenyans have helplessly tolerated the lies told to them constantly by the politicians. Kenyans must learn not to applaud or validate the lies that the politicians tell them, but rather must resolve to seek and be led by the truth,” the bishops stated.
Eugene Wamalwa’s take
On his part, Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa stated that the coordinated government’s responses to the criticism would not change the message unless urgent action was taken to address the issues raised.
“We want to tell our colleagues in government that what the bishops have said is what the Gen Zs said, what the millennials said, and what the opposition and the international community are saying. Address the issues,” Wamalwa said.
Adding: “Stoning the bishops or trying to kill the messenger will not change the message. Stop the intolerance that you are showing to criticism.”
The statements came after government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said that the bishops lacked facts when they delivered the critical statement.
Mwaura said: “Tuzungumze tukiwa an takwimu sahihi. Kenya inasonga mbele kwa njia nzuri zaidi na watu wanafaidika.” (Let us speak with the correct information. Kenya is headed in the right direction, and people are benefiting).
Ruto also responded to the criticism while presiding over a graduation ceremony at Tangaza University on Friday, November 15, 2024, noting that the clergy should be factual.
“I urge all leaders, including the clergy, to work together toward building a nation we can all be proud of. Even as we discuss important national issues, we must remain factual to avoid falling into the same traps we accuse others of,” Ruto said.
