Kakamega Woman representative Elsie Muhanda has faced fierce criticism after she emblazoned her name on a new mud house she built for a needy constituent.

The lawmaker took to her Facebook account to showcase her good deed to her constituents and followers but it didn’t go well with a section of her constituents and netizens.

Muhanda posted a picture of the earlier dilapidated structure and the new structure she constructed, captioning the post; This inspires me, transforming lives of my people.

The new structure bore the writings ‘Elsie Muhanda Mama County Kakamega funded’ on its fisher board.

The post stirred mixed reactions online with a larger faction calling her out for what they termed as an unnecessary quest for political mileage.

Muhanda belongs to ODM party but murmurs have it that the legislator is ‘not very comfortable’ following rumours that one of her competitors is likely to bag the ticket in the upcoming polls. Many had initially linked her to William Ruto-linked United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Here are some reactions sampled online;

@DonaldKomoro; Elsie Muhanda next time you want to show kindness & compassion please leave the camera at home.

@morowathoguo; Are politicians dumb, or do they have fun making a joke of the common man’s suffering?

@KarakachaJr; Naming a house of a peasant after your you is an old fashioned politics. We peasants deserves respect or you leave as alone

@DrEvansRichard; Its too wrong for Elsie Muhanda (MP for Kakamega county) to brand someone’s house in the name of support or lifting people’s lives

The Ruto-allied legislator was forced to later pull down the post.

People Daily Digital has since reached out to the women representative for her comments following the online uproar, but our calls and texts went unanswered by the time of publishing this article.
