The ongoing United Democratic Alliance(UDA) nominations have seen delays in the exercise in most urban centres with rural areas kicking off the voting process as early as 8:00 am.

In an ironic move that ordinarily witnessed far-flung areas voting begin late compared to urban centres, some voters who had turned out as early as 5:00 am to queue were forced to leave without voting.

For instance, voting in the populous Kitengela town which has over 70,000 registered voters in three polling stations according to IEBC record began at around 1:00 pm.

At Likimani Primary School which has 36,000 voters according to IEBC’s 2017 register, the voting began a few minutes before 1:00 pm.

The ballot boxes arrived at the station before noon but agents had to manually separate the ballot papers which were mixed.

A low turnout was also witnessed at the polling station; an issue that was attributed to the change of the polling station from a private institution situated in the town centre to a public institution 4kms away.

The delays were also experienced at Kiserian, Ngong, Ong’ata Rongai and Kajiado.
