The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has onboarded the e-Citizen platform on its services following an ultimatum issued by President William Ruto on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
In a statement on Friday, November 29, 2024, IPOA indicated that their services were now fully onboard with the e-Citizen platform in compliance with the presidential directive.
“The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in support of the President, is fully onboard e-citizen; to serve the public by achieving its core mandate of receiving and investigating complaints lodged against police officers,” IPOA said.
Ruto’s ultimatum
In his no-holds-barred speech on Thursday, Ruto gave at least 20 state agencies and parastatals a week to comply or face consequences.
“These entities have yet to comply with my directive that their services and payments and revenue must be on the eCitizen platform so that Treasury can follow on revenue that is being collected by the government. They have one week to comply, otherwise they know what to do, they can make use of the door,” Ruto stated.
Adding: “One year on, e-Citizen hosts 20,855 services and boasts a thriving community of 13 million active users. Revenue collections through the platform have grown significantly, enabling the government to mobilise critical resources for public projects. E-Citizen is not just a digital service delivery platform; it represents a paradigm shift that has redefined public service delivery in Kenya and profoundly impacted lives.”
Ruto indicated that the digitization of services has significantly enhanced efficiency, saving time and money for both citizens and government as less paperwork translates to lower costs, streamlined processes reduce administrative burdens, and less bureaucracy which leads to faster service delivery.
He observed that these savings are being redirected towards critical areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation.
