Woman Rep declares interest in Kinango seat
Kwale Woman Rep Zulekha Hassan will vie for Kinango parliamentary seat in the next polls. Zulekha (pictured) announced the decision yesterday during ODM leader Raila Odinga’s tour of the Lungalunga constituency in the county.
The Woman Rep said she made the decision after wide consultations
with Raila.
“Baba has asked me to go for a higher seat as Kinango MP and I have
accepted his advice. Therefore come 2022, I will be vying for the Kinango
parliamentary on ODM ticket,” she said.
The MP said that Raila made the advice following a realization that no
key candidate had expressed interest in the seat on the Orange party ticket.
“She is a tough woman. Let her go and fight for the Kinango parliamentary seat and I am sure she will deliver,” Raila said.
Zulekha will battle it out with other candidates among them Benjamin
Tayari; an ODM lawmaker who will defend his seat on United Democratic Alliance.
Zulekha noted that it is Raila who gave her an opportunity to join politics in 2013 where she was nominated to Parliament through ODM.
“Raila is a great leader and a father to many. It is through his campaign
for inclusivity, that he chose me from Kwale to be a youth representative in
Parliament,” Zulekha continued.
She added: “I believe he has a vision for us the Coastal people, so let us support his presidential bid,” she said.
