Wiper Democratic Movement has made major changes to its leadership structure bringing on board embattled Dadaab MP Farah Maalim who has been appointed the Deputy Party leader.
The Kalonzo Musyoka-led party has made the changes to fill in offices left after former Secretary General Judith Sijeny who has been replaced by Nominated Senator Shakila Abdallah.
Maalim’s return comes two months after he was expelled from the party for making inflammatory remarks against the Gen Zs during the June countrywide protests.
He was also not removed from the Speaker’s Panel in the National Assembly as demanded by a section of his colleagues and civil society bodies.
The MP, speaking in an undated video that went viral, intimated that if he were the President of Kenya, he would have “slaughtered 5,000 Gen Z protesters” during the recent wave of anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.
This sparked countrywide protests with calls for him to be changed with incitement. He was questioned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over the remarks but no action has since been taken.
