Wetang’ula speaks after skipping Ruto-Raila pact signing ceremony

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has broken his silence after skipping an event where President William Ruto and fromer Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a coalition deal.
Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi were no show during the event held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Speaking during a church service at Mokwo Parish in Kaptarakwa Ward, Keiyo South Constituency Elgeyo Marakwet County on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Wetang’ula claimed that he was among the to decision makers who ratified the deal.
“We have seen President William Ruto unite with ODM leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. I saw some newspapers asking where Wetang’ula was. Where was Musalia (Mudavadi). I want you to know that the committee of our leadership in our team that sits to decide these heavy things, I am the convener,” he said.
“A mother can prepare a meal and sit in the kitchen while the children eat. She does not have to sit on the table for the food to be eaten.”
Wetang’ula and Mudavadi miss event
Despite attending a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House, chaired by President Ruto where MP endorsed the signing of the cooperation deal between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parties, Mudavadi was a no-show during the ceremony.
Mudavadi flew to Bomet after the PG for the funeral of Mzee David Kiplang’at Arap Kirinyet, the father of Dr Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs.
Mudavadi also attended a thanksgiving service at Friends’ Boys School in Lugusi, Kakamega, where he presented a bus to the learning institution in honour of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi.
On the other hand, Wetang’ula flew to Kimilili, Trans Nzoia County, where he commissioned an 8-classroom story building at the Daraja Mungu Comprehensive School in Kibingei Ward.
He also attended the requiem mass for the late former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
