Wetang’ula: Ruto deserves a second term
By Valerian Khakayi, July 13, 2025National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula has publicly endorsed President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during a church service in Igembe North, Meru County, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Wetang’ula defended Ruto’s track record and called on the residents to unite behind the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The speaker said the Kenya Kwanza government, under Ruto’s leadership for the past two years, had achieved significant milestones, stating that he deserves a second term.
“Watu wa Meru, hii serikali ya William Ruto ni serikali yenu nyinyi ndio mlichangia kama wakenya wengine kupigia William Ruto kura, and it is your government, I therefore, urge the people of Meru to offer unwavering support for President Ruto’s administration since he deserves a second term based on his development record,” Wetang’ula said.
“The Kenya Kwanza government, under the stewardship of President William Ruto, has made great milestones since he took over the mantle of leadership two years ago.”

The former Bungoma senator further said that Ruto has fulfilled his promise by employing more teachers and he is committed to tackling unemployment issues.
“To streamline operations in the education sector, President Ruto’s administration has employed 76, 000 teachers and the new budget has an allocation to employ an additional 24, 000 teachers, bringing the total to 100,000 teachers, the highest since independence,” he said.
“The government is committed to fulfilling campaign promises that include finding solutions to the unemployment question that continues to put the administration at loggerheads with its citizens.”
This comes after he defended Ruto amid criticism that he has underperformed since he took over the country’s mandate.
“Our president found the country in a difficult economic state, with stalled roads, an overstretched health system, and a disrupted education sector,” he said.

“Today, strides have been made; CBC, with the teething issues and bottlenecks facing it, has been streamlined, and the future of our education system is now more secure.
“In the health sector, we have witnessed reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage. Previously, NHIF channeled more resources to private hospitals than public ones, despite public facilities serving nearly 80% of Kenyans.
“The President’s intervention saw the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA)—a bold step toward health equity. While every new policy attracts resistance, SHA is already transforming lives. I urge all Kenyans to register and test it for themselves. We already have testimonies of citizens who have benefitted,” he concluded.
