We’re working to end Senate, National Assembly turf wars: Cheruiyot
Turf wars between the Senate and the National Assembly will be resolved soon to pave the way for better relations between the two chambers, a senator said yesterday.
Leader of Majority Aaron Cheruiyot said efforts to end the long-standing disagreements, particularly on the Houses’ legislative mandate, were bearing fruit.
Speaking in Mombasa on the sidelines of an induction workshop bringing members of the committee and senate staff, Cheruiyot said the SBC is making good strides in mediation efforts.
Article 110
“We are in the process of entering a consent, in the matter that is in the Supreme Court between the Senate and the National Assembly. We have asked the speaker to negotiate with his team from National Assembly and within a week or two we will bury this issue and enter a consent before a court. I don’t see the reason why we shouldn’t agree,” said Cheruiyot (right).
He said the committee will work round the clock to ensure the stalemate on Article 110 on which bills should come to the Senate will end.
“We have made tremendous progress, as the Senate Business Committee. We have laid down what will be a proposal to our sister House, as you are aware we are in the process of entering a consent between the Houses,” said Cheruiyot.
He has asked the senators to prioritise matters that affect service delivery to Kenyans.
