Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) aspirants drawn from Kajiado county are up in arms protesting the party’s move of not having nominations in the entire county.

Agitated aspirants and supporters say they are ready for nominations and that handpicking a candidate will deny voters their voting democratic right.

According to the aspirants eying various positions including MCAs and Woman Reps, the team says it has not been engaged by the party leadership and no consensus has been reached.

The ODM party through its chairperson Catherine Mumo has already scheduled the Kajiado North constituency as the only region that will participate in the nominations scheduled for tomorrow.

The Sub-county will have nominations for the MP and MCA position for three wards. Four other constituencies have been locked out of the exercise.

Speaking in Kitengela, the aspirants demanded an explanation on how the party reached out to handpicking individuals.

They claim the individuals said to have already been issued with direct tickets are not popular and have not been campaigning for the party presidential hopeful Raila Odinga.

“As aspirants who have been campaigning at the grassroots level, we are ready for a free and fair process. We are not even aware of any consultative meeting seeking consensus among ourselves and we, therefore, demand to be heard by the party leadership,” Douglas Okello, an aspirant for Kajiado East MP said.

According to the tens of aspirants, not having a free and fair exercise will adversely affect the party and create massive fallout.
