Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has urged Generation Z to extend their growing influence into Kenya’s political space, calling on the youth to “Occupy the elections” as the country heads toward the 2027 polls.

In a widely circulated X post on December 12, 2025 shared as Kenyans celebrated the 62nd Jamhuri Day, the MP said she is firmly in the Gen Z “cheering squad,” praising the generation for reshaping nearly every sector of national life.

“I am now waiting to see how they pull it out in shaping our politics. I’m praying that they Occupy the elections too and shape their future into Generational wealth and prosperity. (I’m in their cheering squad). And that will be True independence! Happy Independence Day figuratively!”

“In their world there new Jobs called content creation. Yes you work 24/7,” she wrote, noting how the creative economy has become a hub of youth-driven innovation. She added that traditional music forms are being replaced by new youthful trends.

Youth transforming institutions

Wamuchomba highlighted the cultural shift unfolding across key institutions, pointing to JSS teachers who interact with learners through modern fashion and language.

“The slang they use, Maanze they teach with dreads on the heads and nose rings, but the style is very connected to their learners,” she said. She noted that youthful expression is evident even within the disciplined forces. “In the military, they carry their iPhones to the canteens ~selfie manenos. In the police, they often break into a jig, holding their rifles… enjoying the moments.”

Wamuchomba further highlighted how Gen Z is transforming professional and creative spaces, noting their dynamic approach in hospitals where doctors and nurses are precise, efficient, and technology-driven.

She also emphasised the generation’s growing role in environmental activism, inspired by innovative methods, and their impact on the design and tech industries, where young creators are increasingly shaping ideas and solutions through artificial intelligence.

“In hospitals, they are now the new bouncing doctors and nurses in the rooms precise and concise with their no nonsense digital medicine.” She also pointed to heightened environmental activism inspired by “Truphena Muthoni’s way (hug it till you win it!)” and the growing dominance of tech-driven designers, saying, “In the design world they are the new graphitis in the minds~ AI is their Match.”

Her message landed as thousands gathered at Nyayo National Stadium for Jamhuri Day celebrations themed “Tourism, Wildlife & MICE,” presided over by President William Ruto and Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama.
