Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has left many tongues wagging after she donned a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) scarf during her condolence visit at Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa’s home.

This comes days after she fell out with the Democracy for Citizens (DCP), of which Karungo himself is an ardent member.

This happened on Friday, March 13, 2026, when the outspoken leader appeared at the funeral of the mother of Karungo, Wangui Thangwa, at her home in Mihato. Wamuchomba proceeded to sign the condolence book with the UDA scarf around her neck, despite being at the funeral of the mother of a politician from the DCP party, which is at par with the UDA party.

The Wamuchomba-Gachagua feud

In the recent past, Wamuchomba has been heavily critical of Gachagua and his DCP party.

She was one of the closest allies of the former deputy president and even stood by his side during his impeachment but later became a bitter enemy.

She came out to accuse the former deputy president of blackmailing aspirants from the Mount Kenya region, among other issues. Gachagua, on his side, responded by saying that Wamuchomba was being used as a pawn in the United Opposition camp.

Wamuchomba, who was also very critical of Ruto’s government after her fallout with the opposition camp, was even part of the aspirants present at State House during the aspirants’ forum, where she declared support for a second term for President William Ruto.

Wamuchomba’s role in Kenya Moja

Wamuchomba was initially part of the Kenya Moja MPs caucus, which later revamped into Linda Mwananchi, whose sole aim was calling out the current regime on any excesses.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who was one of the members of Kenya Moja, came out after Wamuchomba’s decamping, expressing his disappointment with her, saying that she just left them without even informing them. He stated that it would have been politically and morally upright if she had notified them before leaving.

Wamuchomba has eulogised with the Kiambu senator’s family, praying that the soul of their late matriarch is laid to rest in peace.

“Joined the Thangwa family of Mitahato village for prayers this Evening As we pray for the departed soul of Mama Lucia Wangui Thang’wa mother to my neighbours and Sen Karungo Thang’wa. Rest in eternal peace, Mother.”
