Wambugu Ngunjiri defies Jubilee SG over disciplinary warning

By , March 28, 2026

A fresh storm is simmering within the Jubilee Party as former Nyeri MP Wambugu Ngunjiri has clapped back at his party’s secretary general, Montalel Ole Kenta, who threatened to institute disciplinary action against him over his continued push for an aspirants’ forum.

While speaking to the media on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the outspoken MP, who has in recent times been vocal on the plight of aspirants within the Jubilee Party, said they will not be gagged and are ready for the disciplinary mechanisms being proposed.

Wambugu Ngunjiri, who is the convener of the Jubilee Aspirants Forum, continued to express his disappointment with the party and its treatment of aspirants.

“In response to a letter that was issued by Jubilee party on March 27, 2026 (3:16), I want to say that that is not only misguided, but it was a blatant attempt to intimidate ordinary members (3:26), suppress political organising, and mobilise party structures.”

He noted that other parties encourage their aspirants to meet regularly and hold forums to market and energise the party, but in Jubilee, such efforts are met with threats and intimidation. He stated that a big party like Jubilee should not be afraid of its members when they decide to gather to popularise the party.

“Since when did it become an offence for the members and aspiring leaders to meet and discuss the future? (5:21) Since when did politics and consultation become misconduct? (5:24) Since when did mobilisation become misconduct?

He dared the Secretary General to proceed with the disciplinary action and challenged him to specify which party clauses he had violated, adding that he is ready to appear before any lawful process for disciplinary process.

He further claimed that party officials threatening members are the same individuals benefiting from resources the party fought for in 2022, despite having previously belonged to other parties.

He added that the problem within the Jubilee Party is a conflict of interest, where some officials are trying to stifle the political ambitions of other members for their own gain, possibly serving external political interests. He urged party members not to be silenced or intimidated by senior officials or to surrender their ambitions due to pressure from a few individuals.

This comes just days after Jubilee aspirants held a meeting in Nyeri and invited their deputy party leader, Fred Matiang’i, to grace the occasion. According to Wambugu Ngunjiri, the event was facilitated entirely by the aspirants themselves, with no funding from the party.

SG’s response

In response, they were served with a letter from the party’s secretary general, who termed the aspirants’ forum as being outside the official party structure.

In the letter, he stated that the only way to register as an aspirant is through the party’s website, where the county party chairperson is notified, not through the approach being used by Wambugu Ngunjiri. He further called for the cessation of activities linked to the forum.

The Jubilee aspirant forum, which is led by Wambugu, is a forum within the former ruling party aimed at bringing together all those interested in various elective seats.
