Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa on Saturday, November 22, 2025, implored Nyanza residents to reject leaders who claim to be friends of Raila Odinga when they actually stole his votes.

Speaking in Sigomere, Ugunja County, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Wamalwa urged voters to return the favour by voting for the opposition candidate in the coming polls.

Wale waliibia Baba Kura pia wanakuja kuwaomba kura. Si mnawajua? Sisi tulipea Baba block. Western yote ilikuwa Azimio. Kalonzo pia alimpea kura zake zote.”

“Leo Kasongo amekuja kusema eti yeye ndio rafiki ya baba kuliko Kalonzo. Hio ni ukweli? Si hio ni Uwongo. Tumekuja kuwaambia watu wa Nyanza msiache mbachao, anaitwa Kalonzo kwa msala upitao anaitwa Kasongo,” he said.

Wamalwa also affirmed Kalonzo Musyoka’s history as a loyal ally of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

“Baba had many friends, but none could reach the level of his friendship with Kalonzo. Kalonzo was Baba’s greatest friend,” he said.

Stole Raila’s votes

In a moving appeal aimed at wooing an electorate considered the political bedrock of the departed politician, Wamalwa implored voters to reject those who stole Baba’s votes.

He also lauded the residents for their hospitality, referencing the heroic welcome extended to the former VP during the visit to Opoda farm following Raila’s death.

“Kalonzo stood by Raila for 15 years as they stole his votes. Today as the DAP-K party, we come as Baba’s friends. We know new friends are coming here to solicit for votes, but we ask that you stand with us, who stood with Baba when people were stealing their votes,” he added.

“In the Western region, we gave him a block as the Azimio wave, as Kalonzo and Ukambani also did,” he added.

Wamalwa followed moments after Kalonzo launched a sharp attack on Ruto, dismissing his claims of being a close friend of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader.

Insulted Baba

“You, the people of Luo Nyanza — from Siaya and Homa Bay to Kisumu—know very well that Ruto cannot claim to be Raila’s friend. He is the same person who used to insult Baba by calling him a ‘mganga’,” Kalonzo told the crowd while campaigning for the Wiper candidate.

In a clear charm offensive on his return to Raila’s stronghold in the Nyanza region, Kalonzo positioned himself as Raila’s most loyal ally, detailing how he had stood firmly with the ODM leader through decades of political struggles and presidential bids until his passing.
