Wajackoyah explains why Gen Zs seem to be losing momentum
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 13, 2026Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah, who unsuccessfully contested in the 2022 general elections, has come out to explain why Gen Zs have begun losing their momentum.
While speaking during an interview with K24 TV on Tuesday, January 13, 2025, the Roots Party leader stated that the Gen Zs, who brought the nation to a standstill in 2024 during the Finance Bill protests that paralysed the country and forced President William Ruto to dance to their tune, had built proper momentum, but it has now begun to fade.

According to Wajackoya, the Gen Zs should have translated the anger they had during the massive protests into registering as voters, but instead they have chosen to degenerate.
Gen Z’s legitimacy
He went on to take issue with the Gen Zs, saying that their legitimacy can only be manifested through votes and by registering as voters.
He further urged them to register as voters, noting that, according to him, they are the only people who can bring the real change that the country has lacked for years.
“For the first time, I will say something against Gen Z. They came up with proper momentum, but they have lost it. I am not seeing them going to register as voters. Their legitimacy can only be manifested through votes. I ask them to register because they are the only ones who can bring change.”
Registration of voters
Wajackoya continued to state that should he take power, he will make sure that voter registration is made mandatory alongside driving licence and ID issuance to those who attain the age of maturity

“This is what I will do if I become the president in the first year; I will make voter registration compulsory,” he said.
He clarified that the legislation he intends to push through Parliament would link voter registration directly to the issuance of IDs and driving licences.
“I will make sure that legislation is passed that if you reach the age of maturity, before you get your ID or driving licence, you must also apply to register as a voter. But if you get your ID or driving licence, they cannot be functional unless you register as a voter,” Wajackoyah said.
On his 2027 presidential quest, Wajackoyah stated that should he get the support of the diaspora community and the Gen Zs whom he is adamant about registering as voters, it will be an easier ride and will defeat President William Ruto.
