Uhuru makes fresh and bold call on youth leadership ahead of 2027
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 7, 2025Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for the inclusion of youth in leadership to enable them to shape the country they desire.
While speaking during a Jubilee grassroots mobilisation event at Thika Green Gardens in Murang’a on Friday, November 7, 2025, the former president emphasised the need for young people to be included in positions of power so that they can determine for themselves the kind of Kenya they want and how they want it to be run.
“The youths must be allowed to take positions of leadership so that they are in a position to determine for themselves how they wish Kenya to be. Sio wewe kuja kuwaambia ati itakuwa hivi; wenyewe wanajua ile Kenya wanataka,” Uhuru said.
According to Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been passionate about youth leadership in recent months, he has been calling upon young people to be bold enough to step out and take leadership positions. He urged those in authority to allow the youth to decide their own course of action rather than making decisions for them.
He further stated that the role of the older generation and those in power should be to offer guidance and advice to the youth who have ventured into leadership, not to dictate to them how the country should be run.

He went on to emphasise the need to create more leadership opportunities for young people so that they can have platforms to exercise their potential.
“Wafunguliwe nafasi waweze kuchukua vyeo vya uongozi na kujitekelezea wenyewe yale ambayo wanataka. Sisi ni kuwapatia mawaidha; wakuje watuombe mawaidha, lakini wenyewe wajichukulie awamu ya kujitekelezea yale ambayo wanataka,” he added.
Deliberations of the Jubilee NDC
This came during the Jubilee Party mobilisation programme, which was one of the key deliberations during the National Delegates Conference (NDC) that Uhuru chaired virtually a few weeks ago.
The conference saw the party settle on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as the party’s flag bearer and deputy party leader.
After expressing full commitment to the united opposition, the party also allowed the newly chosen flag bearer, Fred Matiang’i, to represent them in the united opposition talks.

The Jubilee grassroots mobilisation programmes, with the one held in Murang’a being the pilot, are expected to popularise and rebrand the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
