Timamy replaces Mudavadi as Amani Congress Party leader

Newly-appointed Prime Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi has officially relinquished his position as the Amani National Congress Party leader.

The party Secretary-General Simon Kamau Gikuru announced yesterday that they had picked Lamu Governor Issa Timamy to replace Mudavadi in an acting capacity.

Mudavadi had earlier announced that he had relinquished his position in ANC in line with the constitution leaving his replacement to all manner of speculations.

“H.E. Hon. Musalia Mudavadi relinquished his position as ANC Party leader following his nomination for appointment as Prime Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Kenya. This is in accordance with Article 77(2) of the Constitution of Kenya,” Gikuru said in a statement dated October 26.

“The ANC Council Bureau has since nominated Governor Issa Abdallah Timamy as the acting Party leader in accordance with the ANC party constitution,” he added.

Timamy is a longtime ally of Mudavadi since their days in Kanu, ODM, UDF and now ANC.

He successfully vied for the Lamu gubernatorial seat in the 2013 General Election on the UDF ticket which was then headed by Mudavadi.

He however failed re-election in 2017 losing to Fahim Twaha.

He bounced back on August 9 making him the only governor allied to ANC.

Leaders affiliated to the party hailed the governor over his appointment and assured him of their support.
