Leaders in Uasin Gishu County have joined residents in early Christmas shopping in various local shops within Eldoret town, using the occasion to call for unity and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.

Led by Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, the leaders urged politicians to shun tribal politics, warning of its dangerous consequences based on past experiences.

“We all witnessed the negative effects of tribal politics during the 2007/2008 post-election violence. This should never happen again in our country,” Sudi said.

He called on leaders to abandon ethnic-based politics and instead focus on agenda-driven leadership that promotes unity and development.

“Leaders should stop using the tribal card for political gain. We need agenda-based politics that unite Kenyans and bring development, not politics that promote ethnicity,” he added.

The Kapseret MP also challenged the opposition to embrace issue-based politics.

“The opposition should come up with clear development agendas instead of incitive politics that divide the country,” Sudi said.

Nominated Member of Parliament Wainaina Iraya echoed the sentiments, calling on residents to respect one another and coexist peacefully, especially during the festive season.

“Kenyans should respect each other and do business peacefully wherever they are, especially during this Christmas season,” Iraya said.

The leaders urged residents to work together towards development and to reject politicians who thrive on division.

“We should shun leaders who want to divide us along tribal lines. Unity is the only way we can achieve development,” Sudi noted.

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii assured traders of support during the festive season.

“We will give traders enough space to operate during this festive period so that they can earn a living before schools reopen in January,” Governor Bii said.
