Sudi responds after Gachagua says Mt Kenya is being targeted
By David Nthua, July 5, 2026Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he said he had received information that violence was being planned against residents and businesses in the Mt Kenya region.
Sudi, using X on Sunday, July 5, 2026, accused Gachagua of contradicting himself by presenting the current administration as a threat to the region.
“The same person who wanted business people from his region removed from office is now the loudest, claiming the current administration is targeting his people,” Sudi wrote.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator also accused Gachagua of misleading Kenyans.
“The king of lies is out again. Don’t take us for fools, Mr Quarter Term!!” he added.
Gachagua raises alarm
Sudi’s response came hours after Gachagua said police officers had informed him about a plan to cause violence, kill young people and destroy businesses in Mt Kenya.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party leader said he used the information to urge his supporters to remain calm and avoid being drawn into confrontations.
“I am a very proud leader, that I lead very obedient people. Nilitafutwa na watu ya polisi. Wakaniambia ile vita imepangwa, ni ya kuua watoto hapa milimani, kuvunja vunja maduka hapa,” Gachagua said.

He maintained that the violence would have affected the region’s economic activities and placed pressure on residents to reconsider their political position.
“They wanted to bring down our means of production, ndio watoto wetu Wakikuyu, Wameru, Waembu wanitafute kuniambia, hold your horses, wacha huyu mtu arudi miaka ingine tano,” he said.
Political exchange
Gachagua further said his intervention frustrated the plan and was the reason Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had intensified attacks against him.
“Ndio maana unaona Murkomen ananitusi because I foiled the plan. Niliharibu ile mpango alikuwa anapanga,” he said.
Gachagua did not identify the police officers who supplied the information or present supporting documents during the remarks.

Sudi, on his part, did not identify the businesspeople he said Gachagua had previously wanted removed from office.
The exchange comes as Gachagua and leaders allied to President William Ruto intensify their political rivalry ahead of the 2027 General Election.
