Speaking on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Baragwi-Gichugu MCA David Mathenge claimed that the governor, under instructions from President Ruto, was planning to form a new party to contest the senatorial seat.

The three-time MCA, a staunch proponent of Rigathi Gachagua, implored the DCP leader to allow him to contest the seat against the sitting governor.
“We know that Governor Waiguru has agreed to form her own party and contest the senator’s seat under instructions from President Ruto. I want to ask Gachagua to allow me to contest the senate seat here and face off with her,” he said during a stopover in Makutano.
Mathenge is among the three politicians set to host the united opposition leaders alongside area women representative, Njeri Maina, and Senator Kamau Murango.
