By , September 1, 2021

The Democratic Party of Kenya is today expected to name National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi as its party leader.

According to a document obtained by People Daily Digital, Muturi will be endorsed during an event that will be held at the Nairobi hotel.

Muturi has already declared his interest in vying for the presidency in 2022.

According to a reliable source, Muturi’s attempt to form his party was frustrated by top government officials who claimed he is Deputy President’s project.

“National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi is the party leader of DP party. He will be unveiled today, “a reliable source said.

He has further revealed that the event to endorse Muturi will kick off at 10 am at the United Kenya Club and the party Secretary-General Dr. Jacob Haji will be present among top officials from the party and  from Mount Kenya East.

The Party of National Unity (PNU), Democratic Party of Kenya (DP), and Safina a month ago formed a coalition partnership in preparation for the 2022 general elections.

The leaders met at a Nairobi hotel and vowed to work towards economic reforms which once thrived under PNU leader and former president Mwai Kibaki.

“Muturi’s elevation to party leader comes a week after the new Democrats Party led by businessman Thuo Mathenge endorsed Jimmy Kibaki as its deputy party leader.

Mathenge told the media that Jimmy Kibaki and Uhuru’s first cousin Simon Gathecha will play key roles in the coming general election.
