Sifuna condemns police for blocking ODM meeting at Ufungamano House
By Emmanuel Rono, March 27, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned the disruption of the planned Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) meeting at Ufungamano House in Nairobi by the police officers.
Addressing his team during the meeting, Sifuna faulted the heavy police deployment, describing it as unwarranted interference with a lawful political gathering.
He said the party had complied with all legal requirements, including issuing prior notice to security agencies about the meeting.
“Sisi tumekuja hapa kwa amani na hatutaki mtu yeyote kuleta fujo katika mkutano huu. Tulipeana ilani tukawaambia tutakuwa hapa leo kwa mkutano, lakini jambo linalosikitisha ni kwamba tumeona malori ya polisi yamejaa hapa nje,” SIfuna said.
Loosely translate, “We have come here in peace, and we don’t allow anyone to cause any disruption to this meeting. We issued prior notice that we would be here today for this gathering, but it is unfortunate to see police trucks stationed outside the venue,” Edwin Sifuna said.
We have no issue with police
Sifuna said the meeting posed no threat to public order, insisting that Linda Mwananchi leaders and supporters were committed to conducting their affairs peacefully.
He asked the deployed police officers to allow the members to proceed with the meeting uninterrupted, adding that they have no any issie with them.
“Sisi tulikuja hapa kwa amani na hatuna shida na Polisi kama OCS anataka kutuongelesha akuje mbele tutampea nafasi,” Sifuna stated.
“Our gathering is peaceful and lawful. We have no issue with the police, and if they have concerns, we are ready to engage them respectfully,” he added.
Police tries to block meeting
The deployment comes as the party faces a defining moment and its most serious internal crisis following the death of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga, in October 2025.
According to videos circulating online seen by the People’s Daily Digital on March 27, 2026, ahead of the National Delegates Convention (NDC), a number of uniformed officers were deployed at the entrance, preventing members of the group from accessing the building.
