Sicily Kariuki now wants to be Nyandarua governor
Former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has declared that she will contest for Nyandarua governor’s seat again in 2027.
She said her bid for the post in 2022 was scuttled by people at the then ruling party Jubilee’s headquarters who robbed her nomination ticket. “I was robbed of the certificate after winning the party nomination for the governor’s race. But they never killed my resolve to see Nyandarua enjoy the taste of woman governorship like the other counties under women stewardship,” she said Tuesday.
She was addressing mourners at Runda estate near Nyahururu town during the burial of a Nyahururu businessman Peter Mwangi Mathenge who was found dead in a hotel room in Karatina, Nyeri a week ago.
Kariuki who served as Water CS in the final year of retired president Uhuru Kenyatta’s government said Kenyans have become wiser as the country heads to the next election.
“The promises made have not been fulfilled but cost of living has gone through the roof due to high taxes both at county and national level. “Next time you have an opportunity to elect leaders, don’t buy lies,” she said, adding that the disunity being witnessed in the country is due to poor leadership.
But addressing the mourners, the Cathedral Provost Daniel Ogunyu told men to be “allowing themselves to cry when faced with problems saying it is part of the healing process.”
The funeral service was full of drama as the church tried to restrain some speakers from delving into county or national politics. However, many of them managed to cleverly sneak in statements loaded with politics when given a chance to speak.
The Nyandarua executive for Education John Muiru who represented Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha said the deceased’s wish for a market to be established in Gatimu area, where residents can be selling their produce instead of taking them to the congested Nyahururu market in Laikipia County, will be fulfilled by the County government. The deceased vied for Nyandarua’s Gatimu ward MCA’s post in last election but lost in the UDA nominations.
