Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa has pleaded with President William Ruto to listen to his deputy in the same way he listened to Gen Z when he withdrew the Finance Bill 2024.

Addressing a congregation on Saturday, the senator, while advising the president and his deputy on ways to address the ongoing discontent with the youth in the country maintained that Ruto should give Gachagua a listening ear.

He also advised that the two leaders should approach the discontented youth via a TikTok live session to listen to their grievances and subsequently take action.

"Riggy G ukitaka kuongea na Gen Z, na pia rais afanye hivyo, we ingia TikTok uende live, useme Gen Z wote kujeni tuongee watakuongelesha, watakuambia kila kitu na vitu wanataka, na mahali wangetaka kuenda. Mimi ningetaka kumwomba rais, sababu rais na deputy president wote tunawaunga mkono, mimi nataka kumwomba kama kijana wake yule mdogo, vile aliskiliza Gen Z, asikilize Riggy G, wote wakona G mahali," he said.

The senator's remarks come even as the government launched a plan to engage the disgruntled youth in a move meant to quell looming protests expected this week.

In the plan signed by the Head of Public Service, Felix Kosgei, President Ruto announced the constitution of a National Multi-Sectoral Forum (NMSF) to engage stakeholders in addressing the concerns raised by the young Kenyans.

“In that regard, and to facilitate the establishment of the National Multi-Sectoral Forum (NMSF), all national-level umbrella organizations representing the youth, civil society, religious organizations, professional bodies, business community organizations, academia, student leadership, majority and minority leaders of parliament, the Council of Governors, and other stakeholder groups are requested to nominate representatives to constitute the National Steering Committee (NSC) of the NMSF,” the statement shared added.

However, the youth have maintained that fresh demonstrations will be held countrywide in honour of those killed during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 and anti-government protests.
