Senator Sakaja leading in race for Nairobi Governor – TIFA poll

By , March 10, 2022

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has emerged as the leading aspirant in the race to clinch the Nairobi Governor seat in the August elections, according to an opinion poll.

A poll released by Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) shows that if the elections were conducted today, Sakaja would win the city’s governor seat with 23 % of the votes

Though Sakaja is currently leading, he would face competition from his rivals who include Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, businessman Richard Ngatia and incumbent governor Anne Kananu.

In the race to the governor seat, Sakaja is closely followed by Wanyonyi who, according to the poll, commands 14% of the Nairobi votes followed by Kananu and Ngatia who commands about 7% and 6 % of the city votes respectively.

TIFA notes that though Sakaja is currently leading, the small margin between him and his competitors makes the race to the City Hall still open and that the numbers can change once political parties/coalitions unveil their candidates.

“Whilst Johnson Sakaja is currently the most popular aspirant for governor, the combination of his modest lead and the number of other contestants suggests that the outcome of this election is still unclear,” Tifa said.
