Senator Methu slams Ruto’s govt over Kariobangi North church teargas incident
By Kiprono Keileb, November 30, 2025Nyandarua Senator John Muhia Methu has strongly criticised President William Ruto’s administration following chaotic scenes at PCEA Kariobangi North, where police fired teargas within the church compound.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving service at PCEA Kariobangi North church on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Methu called out the government for crossing a sacred line by allowing security officers to lob teargas where congregants, including women and children, were worshipping.
Methu said the actions showed growing intolerance against leaders and communities perceived to be supporting the opposition. Methu called out the government for disrespecting places of worship.
“William Ruto ulikujanga kanisa ukaombewa, hata kama unatuchukia kiasi gani, usirushe teargas Kanisan,” he said.
He went on to tell the congregation that they would not be silenced by intimidation from state agencies.
“Tunataka kukuambia tu kitu kimoja, upige teargas, upige mawe, upige risasi, mambo yako tumeshamaliza, and we can, and we shall not bow to you kwa sababu wewe sio Mungu, sisi tunampigia magoti Mungu pekee,” he stated.
Gunshot injuries
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that two DCP supporters suffered gunshot injuries during the confrontation.
“Today, your police and goons opened fire and shot two DCP supporters who are now nursing serious gunshot wounds,” he said.
He further condemned the police for firing teargas inside a church, describing it as a violation of a sacred space.
“Directing police to throw tear gas in a church to harm the clergy, women, and children is the lowest a leader can go,” he said.
Gachagua further said it was wrong for police to turn places of worship into battlegrounds, arguing that the violence had nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with politics.
