Nominated senator Veronica Maina has demanded that action be taken against former Attorney General Justin Muturi, who was captured in a viral video in an altercation with a voter at a Siakago polling station during the November 27, 2025, by-elections in Mbeere North.

The UDA-allied lawyer has asserted that Muturi must be held accountable for his actions of physically confronting the young man.

Maina lamented that a person of Muturi’s stature could stoop that low and engage in unbecoming conduct.

Pick up the issue

“I was in Mbeere North, and I know for a fact JB Muturi was captured slapping and almost suffocating a voter. The issue needs to be picked up. Muturi has held one of the highest positions in this country. It is unfortunate that he is setting such a bad example for our young people,” he stated.

On the violence witnessed in Mbeere, Maina accused the opposition faction of orchestrating clashes and rowdy scenes in Mbeere North during the polling.

“I can tell you for a fact that the goons and people who were engaging in the running battles were on the opposition side. We need to stop drawing narratives for the sake of it without looking at facts. The opposition even managed to manage gates at polling centres in Mbeere,” she added.

His remarks come after National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed also tore into the conduct of the former CS.

Speaking in Parliament, Junet told the House that he was shocked to see Muturi, a former speaker of the hallowed house, in a physical confrontation at a polling station.

Restraint

He said former holders of top state offices, including the presidency, chief justiceship and speakership, should maintain humility and restraint even when provoked.

“Mr Speaker, when you retire from a high office like the office of the speaker, you should be able to carry yourself with humility and dignity because you are a senior member of this society called Kenya,” Junet said.

“Mr. Speaker, I was very shocked and sorry to see my former boss here and the former speaker fighting a young man.”
