Senator Cheruiyot scoffs at opposition’s capacity to challenge Ruto
By Luke Oluoch, October 13, 2025Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed the united opposition’s capacity to unseat President William Ruto, stressing that such an opposition cannot dethrone the ruling Kenya Kwanza regime.
Speaking in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, on Monday, October 13, 2025, Cheruioyt specifically addressed the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Leader, Rigathi Gachagua, to desist from speaking about his erstwhile boss.
The Kericho Senator accused the former DP of doing nothing during his tenure as the second in command.
This comes after Gachagua vowed to mobilise eight million people to send Ruto home.
Speaking about Ruto
“Those making the noise in Nairobi should not intimidate you. You are the deputy president of the whole nation. Wamunyoro must remove Ruto’s mouth in his name. He is not your age mate or your political equal, so do not speak about Ruto. He had no plans on how to move this country when he was in power,” he stated.
“He also questioned the ability of the Kalonzo-Karua-Gachagua alliance to pose a significant challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration in the upcoming national elections.

No challenge to Ruto
According to the senator, such a coalition would not pose any challenge to President William Ruto or Kindiki.
“If this is the kind of opposition that will be competing against, we will tell Ruto and Kindiki to sit at home and leave us to battle it out against you,” he scoffed.
His remarks come a day after Gachagua brushed off claims of internal divisions within the opposition, insisting that the leaders are united in purpose.

Speaking on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Gachagua addressed concerns of a possible internal rift, affirming that any differences among leaders do not amount to disunity in the broader movement.
“There may be a little difference among leaders in the way they look at things, but those leaders are not the opposition. The opposition are the people of Kenya, and they are united to a man, to a man,” he asserted.
Gachagua emphasised that the grassroots movement sweeping across the country, which he referred to as the Wantam movement, is not only alive but growing stronger across the regions.
“The wantam movement is real across the country, from the Coast region, Northern Kenya, Delta, Central Kenya, Upper and Western Nyanza, Western, here in Nairobi. The one camp movement and the people of Kenya are united in purpose,” he said.
