Salasya to Gachagua: Abandon petty politics or be dropped from Opposition lineup

By , December 1, 2025

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has issued a sharp warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, calling him out for derailing the unity of the emerging Opposition coalition at a time he says the country needs a focused and united alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a statement posted on X on Monday, December 1, 2025, Salasya said Gachagua was drifting into divisive petty politics instead of helping consolidate the broad coalition that has been taking shape after the recent by-elections.

In his post, the MP reminded Gachagua that he had stood by him during his difficult political moments and expected the former Deputy President to prioritise national unity and collective strategy rather than party turf battles.

“I didn’t impeach you sir Rigathi Gachagua, and I stood with you, but let me remind you sir, we are not interested in this petty politics of party stake, but how we can unite Kenyans against the regime that is completely lost to lead the country ama we drop you from the list so that you focus on your kiosk of DCP,” Salasya said

His comments come amid increasing tension within the Opposition ecosystem, especially following contested by-elections in Malava, Mbeere North and Magarini, where the united opposition was defeated by the broad-based arrangement.

The MP argued that what Kenyans expect now is leadership that can challenge the government effectively, not internal power struggles. He said the country is dealing with economic hardship, rising cost of living and political tensions, and the Opposition must present itself as a credible alternative rather than engage in infighting.

While some leaders see the former Deputy President as a key asset with influence in Mt Kenya, others believe his approach risks dividing the coalition.

Salasya insisted that unity, clarity of purpose and respect among leaders must guide the Opposition if it is to make meaningful progress in the coming years.
