Salasya questions Ruto’s Singapore vision, cites self-interest in projects

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has accused President William Ruto of being driven by ulterior motives in prioritising government projects in which he has a personal interest.

Speaking on Friday, October 31, 2025, the lawmaker reminded the president of his dream to transform the country into a first-world nation, stating that such a skewed approach cannot be relied on for economic transformation, which he claims he has been championing.

“The president is now launching projects that he has an interest in. The projects he has an interest in are the ones that are seeing the light of day,” he said.

“You cannot run a country like that and claim that we will achieve the first-world status of Singapore,” he added.

Developing Western region

The MP also castigated Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other leaders over the lack of development in the western region.

Democratic Action of Kenya (DAP-K) Leader Eugene Wamalwa, on his part, told Ruto and his aide, Farouk Kibet, to prepare for a decisive defeat in the upcoming Malava polls.

Wamalwa further advised Kibet, who has pitched camp in Malava, spearheading the United Democratic Alliance’s David Ndakwa’s campaign, to pack up as the region seeks to restore the community’s dignity through the ballot.

“The die is cast, and it is game shot. Their issues and Farouk in this constituency are done. The game is over,” he added.

“This campaign is about this community. Everyone should know that a vote for Seth Panyako is a vote for the redemption of the Luhya nation. Let us not sleep until we see Panyako sworn in as an MP,” he stated.

His remarks came after a coalition of Western leaders allied with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) held their first joint campaigns in Malava constituency on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The move is seen as part of a broader plan to unite opposition parties ahead of the November 27, 2025, by-election, where Panyako will face UDA’s David Ndakwa.

Speaking during the function, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale praised the decision to present a united front against the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa.

Personal decision

Khalwale added that the decision by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate, Edgar Busiega, to step down was a personal one rather than an induced.

“There is no one who has bought this young man. He has made a personal decision to step down,” he stated.
