Salasya mocks MPs and Senators after Ruto’s onslaught
By Mustafa Juma, August 19, 2025Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has ridiculed his fellow legislators following President William Ruto and Raila Odinga’s latest onslaught against parliament over what they term as massive corruption.
According to Salasya, Ruto and Raila’s moves are targeting the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), whose funds are managed by MPs.
In a statement issued via his official X account laced with laughter emojis on the night of Monday, August 18, 2025, Salasya said MPs and Senators had themselves to blame for siding with the President and Raila in sending former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua home, only to be “rewarded” with the dismantling of CDF and KeRRA—two key institutions tied to grassroots development.
“I am just laughing after MPs and senators sent Gachagua home. The reward for them is for Ruto and Raila managing to dismantle CDF, which takes development to their constituencies, and dismantling Kerra, which builds roads and maintains them in their constituencies, and lastly calling them corrupt and useless. When gods want to bring you down, they make you arrogant, unremorseful, and forgetful,” Salasya stated.
Corruption
The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term lawmaker further accused Ruto and Raila of branding MPs and senators as “corrupt and useless”, despite their instrumental role in recent political realignments.
“MPs and senators were very instrumental to Ruto and Raila, but because of their arrogance, they have lost them again. President Ruto and Raila call them corrupt again and again. You are on the right track.” I want you to lose support of these MPs and senators to make 2027 easy for me as the incoming 6th,” he stated.

Amisi’s take
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has also weighed in on President Ruto’s sustained attack on the MPs’ complicity in corrupt activities, terming it a diversionary tactic.
In a statement shared on his X page on Monday, August 18, 2025, the lawmaker accused the head of state of engaging in a ploy meant to distract attention from the real issues.
The lawmaker asserts that the remarks emanate from a president at a political crossroads.

Diversionary
“The onslaught on parliament is a diversionary tactic. Such tricks when you are politically cornered are as old as the oldest profession,” he said in a statement.
His remarks come after Ruto stepped up his warning of MPs engaging in corrupt practices, following up on his threats from the 2025 Devolution Conference in Homa Bay.
In his latest attack on the MPs, Ruto on Monday, August 18, 2025, issued a stern warning to corrupt lawmakers, warning that members culpable of giving or receiving bribes tied to legislative processes would be arrested.
