Saitabao ole Kanchory calls for unified opposition front to end Ruto’s rule in 2027

By , May 1, 2026

Legal expert and political observer Saitabao Ole Kanchory has urged political actors opposed to President William Ruto to stand united and work towards coherence and unity of purpose to improve their prospects in the 2027 general election.

Taking it to his X account on Friday, May 1, 2026, Kanchory has stated that in the absence of a coordinated approach and consistent narrative, the anti-Ruto political bloc risks squandering its collective political power, indirectly benefiting the president.

“We have enough reasons to remove William Ruto, and we need not dwell on his endless scandals and failures. What we need is a clear plan and roadmap for 2027. Tuko Kadi is the only viable and sustainable plan I’ve seen so far. The next step is to create synergy and unity of purpose amongst all teams opposed to this regime,” Kanchory stated.

Kanchory describes the current political landscape as one that sees multiple opposition parties and actors working in isolation, which he believes is counter-productive.

He has further cautioned that until opposition forces stop “pulling in different directions”, the efforts to oppose the current government will be less effective, arguing that the 2027 election should not be viewed as a “multiple choice” election but as a political battle in which unity is essential.

Call for united opposition front

Kanchory has called for what he has described as synergy between all anti-regime teams, with strategic coordination essential to make a serious run.

The outspoken lawyer has said that political leaders need to choose co-operation over competition, particularly in terms of messaging, mobilisation, and election strategy. Additionally, he has said that disjointed political approaches can serve to confuse voters and weaken the anti-incumbency vote.

2027 Polls as a Showdown Election

The call from Kanchory comes at a time when there are political anticipations that the United Alternative Government might join hands with the Sifuna-led Linda Mwanachi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party in a bid to oust President Ruto from power in the next general elections.

Hint of Linda Mwananchi joining United Alternative Govt

In an exclusive interview with K24 TV, a sister station to People Daily Digital, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary for Planning and Economic Affairs, Peter M. Bae, hinted at a potential political alliance with Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi faction. Mbae’s inclusion of Sifuna on his list of opposition leaders has sparked speculation about a possible coalition between Sifuna’s faction and the Alternative United Government. This development could have profound implications for opposition unity.

“You will see people moving around differently; you will see Martha Karua there, Fred Matiang’i there, and Sifuna here. By the time you target Rigathi, Kalonzo comes up; by the time you target Sifuna, he comes up. We are going to see that the whole year until next year. We are going to announce our presidential candidate in May next year, so there is no hurry,” he added.
