Ruto: I am ready to pay any price to transform Kenya

By , August 18, 2025

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to steering Kenya through a transformative journey, declaring his willingness to make personal sacrifices to deliver the country.

Speaking during the ODM–Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting in Karen on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Head of State said Kenya has an opportunity to realise its national ambitions, stressing that he is ready to go to any length to make the country reach its full potential.

“We have the historic opportunity to make this country what we have always wanted it to be. I am ready to pay whatever price to change Kenya,” Ruto stated.

Furthermore, the President noted that transformative leadership often comes with immense responsibility and resistance, but insisted that his administration would not be deterred by short-term criticism. The Karen meeting brought together Members of the parliament from the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to deliberate on the newly formed working framework between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Ruto has in recent months pushed for reforms touching on governance, taxation, education, and infrastructure, sparking both praise and criticism. Ruto also hailed former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga for his selflessness and putting aside his political ambitions for the country’s unity and cohesion.

UDA also lauded the newly found working relationship between ODM and Kenya Kwanza as a pathway to the realisation of the National Dialogue Committee Report implementation.

”The ODM–Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting in Karen is unfolding as a landmark moment in Kenya’s political journey, bringing together MPs from both sides under the joint leadership of President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga. The session builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two leaders last year and is shaping the future of bipartisan cooperation.” UDA said in a statement.

According to UDA, at the centre of discussions is a 10-point programme being steered by a committee chaired by Agnes Zani. The agenda touches on economic recovery, job creation, lowering the cost of living, electoral reforms, youth and women empowerment, strengthening devolution, and anti-corruption measures.

”Leaders are also deliberating on provisions for healing and compensation for families affected by past protests. The meeting is also reaffirming the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which charts a path for bipartisan reforms in Parliament. These include electoral justice, sustainable political party funding, and a shared framework for budget-making.” UDA added.
