President William Ruto hosted a delegation of Siaya Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) at the Eldoret State Lodge on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Ruto stated that the meeting centred on the development priorities of the Nyanza county geared towards realising the full economic potential of the county.

“Met Siaya County Assembly Members, led by Speaker George Owino Okode, at Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County,” part of the president’s statement read.

“Our discussions centred on aligning development programmes with the county’s priorities while making strategic investments to unlock Siaya’s full potential,” he added.

During the meeting, the head of state also addressed the ongoing development projects in the region, committing to expediting those not completed.

“We agreed on the need to accelerate projects that are underway and fast-track planned initiatives, ensuring that development delivers real impact for the people,” he added.

Among the projects is the planned nuclear power plant in Siaya, which is projected to contribute 10 per cent of global nuclear generation capacity, which has sparked debate among local communities, energy experts, and policymakers.

The meeting comes after the head of state convened a similar meeting with Siaya County leaders in June 2025.

An update from the president then stated that discussions of development projects took centre stage days after he completed his tour of the Nyanza region.

Orengo, as he remains now, proved a staunch defender of ODM’s traditional opposition stance, with his vocal skepticism about cooperation, a facet that placed him at odds with a section of apologist voices decrying his dissenting stance as detrimental to the region’s development.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, the former Unguja MP, and Interior Principal Secretary Raymod Omollo were also present in the meeting alongside the county’s Speaker, George Okode.

Wandayi has been a leading proponent of Ruto’s reelection bid in the wider Nyanza region following his appointment as CS after the broad-based arrangement pact signed in March 2025, two leaders
