‘Ruto, Gachagua are still campaigning because they are desperately seeking legitimacy’ – Ekuru Aukot

By , January 25, 2024

Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot now claims that President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua are desperately seeking legitimacy.

Speaking during an interview with Spice FM on Thursday, January 25, 2024, Aukot claimed that the ruling government is a minority government because only a few Kenyans out of the millions voted during the 2022 General Election.

The politician also argued that the President and his deputy were trying so hard to get approval from Kenyans because the majority did not vote for them.

This, according to Aukot, is the reason why the two leaders have been traversing different counties to host rallies.

“The Kenya Kwanza alliance is a minority government. Let’s work with a figure that there are 30 million eligible Kenyans, eight million chose not to register to vote, and 22 million Kenyans registered to participate in the exercise, on the day of voting, 8 million decided we don’t see the point, so we are left with 16 million, then about 7-8 million voted for Kenya Kwanza, while about 6-7 million voted for Azimio,

“Comparatively, if we have a government elected by 8 million Kenyans but there are 22 million who did not even elect you, they did not exercise the choice to legitimise you, this is part of the reason why you can see Ruto and Gachagua back on the campaign trail because they are desperately seeking that legitimacy,” Aukot stated.

Further, the politician took a swipe at the opposition claiming that it had joined the government after being ‘bought’.

Aukot particularly alleged that the opposition had failed to deliver on its mandated oversight role because it had been compromised but was pretending to put the government in check.

“I don’t think we have opposition, we have a very compromised opposition. These people are in government in fact the so-called Azimio was bought by UDA a long time ago by UDA as early as February last year,” he added.
