Ruto dismisses calls for his removal, says power lies with Kenyans

By , April 13, 2026

President William Ruto has rebuked his political opponents, dismissing threats to remove him from office, telling them that Kenya’s sovereignty belongs to its citizens, not a select group of leaders.

Addressing a massive crowd in Nyamira County during his development tour on Monday, April 13, 2026, Ruto questioned the track record of those challenging his leadership, while emphasising his commitment to the nation’s development.

“Nataka kuwauliza ninyi watu wa Nyamira: Je, kuna kanisa lolote wale watu wamejenga? Je, kuna barabara yoyote wamejenga hapa? Hata darasa moja la shule?”
Ruto stated.

Loosely translate: “I want to ask you, people of Nyamira: Is there any church those guys have built? Is there any road they have constructed here? Even a single school classroom?” Ruto asked.

No Room for Intimidation

Ruto challenged the capability and standing of those allegedly plotting his ouster.

“Hakuina mtu mtatisha Kenya hii. Eti wanasema wao ndio wa kuamua kutoa rais. Mtatoa rais ya wapi, kwani nyinyi mnanijua? “ Ruto stated.

Loosely translate: “They say they are the ones who can decide to remove the President. From where will you remove him?” Ruto asked rhetorically, “Do you even know me?” Ruto said.

President Ruto addressed threats by the opposition leaders that the country would “end” or face collapse due to political tensions.

Kenya is secure

He dismissed warnings that the country could descend into instability due to political tensions, maintaining that Kenya remains secure.

“Mimi siwezi kukubali mtu yeyote kutisha Wakenya hakuna mtu yeyote kutisha wakenya kwamba eti Kenya itaisha. Hakuna mtu anatoka kwa ofisi na Kenya kuisha, pengine nyinyi mtaisha,” Ruto said.

“There is no one who will threaten anyone here in Kenya, and Kenya is not ending. Perhaps it is you, the critics, who will end first,” he stated.

He further questioned the crowd on whether his opponents had initiated any meaningful projects in the region.
