The Orange Democratic Movement’s conflicting stance came to the fore in Vihiga County on Saturday, October 4, 2025, as party members accompanying the president, William Ruto, made conflicting remarks on the party’s stance over the broad-based arrangement and 2027 elections.

ODM Deputy Leader and area senator, Godfrey Osotsi, led the forum of mixed signals from the party, stating that ODM’s support for Ruto solely hinged on Raila.

In a fiery speech before the president and Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, the outspoken senator told Ruto to reach out to Raila over his re-election.

He asserted that the party would only support the president if Raila’s gives the greelight.

“Niko hapa kwa sababu baba amesema sisi kama ODM tunashirikiana na serikali hadi 2027, Ikifika 2027, baba atasema.
Kwa mambo ya Tutam we ongea na baba polepole. Akikubali mimi ndio nitakuwa wa kwanza kusupport akisema kando pia tunaeenda kando,” he warned.

Other Orange party members adopted a friendly stance toward Ruto’s re-election.

Led by Nabii Nabwera of Lugari, Elisha Odhiambo of Gem, George Aladwa and Felix Odiwuor of Lang’ata, the legislators expressed their solidarity with the president to achieve his two terms in office.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same function, Trade Unionist Francis Atwoli criticised ODM leader Raila Odinga over his stand on President William Ruto’s chances of seeking a second term in 2027.

The veteran trade unionist stressed that Ruto should not be distracted by questions over his re-election prospects, pointing out that every president before him had completed two terms.

Atwoli declared that it would be unfair to enjoy the benefits of the broad-based administration and later deny Ruto another chance in office

“Mimi chama changu ni KANU. Na ndugu zetu wale wengine ambao wametusaidia, chama kinachoongozwa na ….yangu chama cha ODM. Kuform ile broad-based government. Saa hizi kuna maendeleo makubwa kule Nyanza. Kwa ajili ya broad-based. Vyeo tumepata. Your Excellency uwezi kutufanyia mambo mazuri alafu tulete siasa ingine ati tutafikiria tukifika 2027. Ukifanyia mtu kitu kizuri, ni lazima pia huwe mtu committed ya kwamba sisi tukifika 2027, tutakupropel for another five years,” Atwoli said.
