Siaya Governor James Orengo has praised Nairobi Senator and the Linda Mwananchi faction leader Edwin Sifuna as one of the most loyal allies of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

In his birthday tribute shared via his official X account on Friday, May 22, 2026, Orengo described Sifuna as a “true son of Baba Raila Odinga” and commended him for standing firmly with the veteran opposition leader during both difficult and successful political moments.

The Siaya Governor lauded the Nairobi Senator’s consistency and commitment to the ODM party and its political ideals.

“Edwin Sifuna is a true son of Baba Raila Odinga and a real Kenyan patriot, who stood with him in good and bad times,” Orengo stated.

He further praised Sifuna’s courage and dedication to ordinary Kenyans.

“On this special day, we honor your courage, your consistency, and your unwavering dedication to the mwananchi. Happy Birthday!” Orengo added.

Sifuna has in recent years emerged as one of ODM’s most vocal and visible leaders, frequently defending the party and the late Raila’s legacy in public debates and political contests.

His stance on the ODM deal with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) that led to the broad-based government made him to be labelled as an Orange Party rebel, a move that led to the emergence of the Kenya Moja movement that later morphed into the now vibrant Linda Mwananchi movement.

Sifuna’s rising influence

As ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator, Sifuna has built a reputation as an outspoken communicator and fierce defender of the party’s positions on national issues.

His political profile has continued to rise, especially among the youth who view him as part of the country’s next generation of leadership.

Both Orengo and Sifuna remain key figures within the Linda Mwananchi political camp and have often spoken strongly in defence of the opposition movement’s agenda.

The two have been paying glowing tributes to each other during their birthdays.

Sifuna’s political mentor

During Orengo’s birthday in February 2026, Sifuna described Orengo as a political mentor and comrade in the struggle for a better Kenya.

In a heartfelt birthday message shared on social media on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Sifuna expressed admiration for the veteran politician’s long-standing commitment to democratic ideals and reformist politics.

Sifuna further recounted the time Orengo worked closely with his late uncle Lawrence Sifuna during the second liberation fight when they formed a team that was labelled as the seven bearded sisters over their stance against the late President Daniel Arap Moi’s leadership.

“Omwami @orengo_james, I’m honoured to even know you, privileged that I get to learn at your feet, an inexplicable twist of history that I get to call you a comrade in a fight for a better Kenya, just like you did with my Uncle Lawrence. Mimi yangu ni kukuombea maisha marefu. Happy Birthday, Sir! History will be kind,” Sifuna wrote on X.

Orengo, a seasoned lawyer, has long been associated with Kenya’s pro-democracy struggles, dating back to the second liberation era. His political journey has made him a reference point for many younger leaders within the opposition.
