Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga's lawyer Paul Mwangi has weighed in on speculations about the looming impeachment of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement shared on X, the firebrand lawyer made it clear that anyone expecting to get backing from members of the opposition in Gachagua's impeachment should re-plan.

He explained that the only reason the opposition was previously against the DP was because he was a nuisance to them, however, now that he has become a problem to the ruling party the Raila-led opposition will ensure the DP has security of tenure.

"Anyone counting on using the opposition numbers in Parliament to impeach Riggy G should re-plan. We used to hate Riggy G because he was inside UDA pissing on us. He is still inside UDA but now he is pissing on them. Opposition shall ensure Riggy G has security of tenure," Mwangi said.

The lawyer's remarks seemingly come in response to Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria's cryptic message alleging a looming impeachment motion against DP Gachagua.

“Impeachment loading….,” Kuria posted on X.

This comes amid an ongoing dispute within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party pitting the DP, a section of MPs allied to the outfit and a section of Cabinet Secretaries (CSs).

Yesterday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua fired at his critics within the President William Ruto-led camp accusing them of undermining his authority.

Gachagua went on to state that he only answers to his bosses; Ruto and the people of Kenya.

The rift within the camp has intensified due to the DP's relentless push for the one-man, one-vote, one-shilling revenue-sharing formula.
