Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has issued a cautionary note to opposition leaders following their recent meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement shared via his official Facebook page on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Wambugu, who is a former DP’s ally, said while it was encouraging to see the opposition engaging in talks, they should tread carefully in their dealings with Gachagua, warning that any discussions held in his presence could later be exposed.

“I see members of the loyal opposition met today. Good. We continue to remind them to be careful about what they discuss with Gachagua present. In less than 2 years, we will be told all about it—graphically, with recordings,” Wambugu wrote.

United opposition’s meeting

Wambugu’s cautionary statement comes hours after the members of the loyal opposition met for talks on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

In a statement shared via his official page, Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed that he had held a meeting with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) party leader Gachagua and former Attorney General Justin Muturi, with the leaders sharing light moments together.

Kalonzo further noted that the meeting brought together key figures in the united opposition, including DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, and Saitoti Torome.

Challenging Ruto

He emphasised that their foremost agenda is the “Wantam” movement, which is aimed at unseating President William Ruto in 2027.

“Today, the United Opposition gathers with clarity of purpose and unity of resolve. Alongside my brothers H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH Eugene L Wamalwa, Hon. JB Muturi, Hon Fred Matiang’i, and Hon. Saitoti Torome, we stand together for one cause.” Kalonzo stated.

He further stressed that at this critical time, Kenyans deserve leadership and direction, adding that their mission goes beyond individual interests and is focused on safeguarding the future of the Republic and upholding the spirit of the 2010 Constitution.

“At this critical moment, Kenyans deserve leadership and direction. This is bigger than individuals, it’s about safeguarding the future of our Republic and upholding the promise of the 2010 Constitution.” Kalonzo stated
