Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has rubbished reports that he could support President William Ruto reclaim his seat in the 2027 general elections.

This follows media reports that he had promised to throw his weight behind Ruto if he performs well between now and 2026.

According to the reports, Onyonka, who has declared his support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, said that thay are willing to negotiate with Ruto before 2027.

However, in a statement on Sunday, March 30, 2025, Onyonka said that his support for Matiang’i was unshakable.

“This is sensational excitement from a section of irresponsible media outlets aimed at clout-chasing. Our position is clear; we are unwaveringly supporting Dr. Fred Matiang’i to be the President of Kenya. ignore such misleading information from our destructors!” Onyonka stated.

Jubilee endorses Matiang’i

Matiang’i was recently announced as the Jubilee Party’s presidential flag bearer by secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, who revealed that he had expressed interest for the top seat.

“Matiang’i just expressed a desire, and it is the work of the party to market its candidate across the country,” Kioni stated.

Kioni argued that for a party of Jubilee’s stature, having a clear presidential candidate is crucial.

“As a party the size of Jubilee, it’s not in our best interest to operate without a presidential candidate. When there are individuals willing to offer leadership, they should be given a fair chance,” he added.

Kioni also revealed that Matiang’i would soon address the public about his political plans.

“Matiang’i is the one who reached out, and he will be speaking about it himself in the coming days. We won’t have to wait too long. When he feels the time is right, he will make his position clear,” Kioni stated.

Several candidates have registered interest in unseating Ruto in 2027 including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Morara Kebaso.
