ODM’s Central Committee meeting underway
By Luke Oluoch, October 27, 2025Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) acting party leader Oburu Odinga is currently leading the party in a Central Committee Meeting that was urgently convened following the passing of party leader Raila Odinga.
The ODM party has confirmed holding the crucial meeting this Monday, October 27, 2025, at its headquarters in Chungwa House, moments after the new acting leader visited the premises in Nairobi.
Meeting
“Central Committee meeting underway under the chairmanship of Ag. Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga,” a confirmation from the party stated.
National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, and Executive Director Oduor Ongwen are among other party officials in attendance.
Oburu had earlier met with the party’s National Secretariat, led by Executive Director Oduor Ongwen and Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

According to an update from Mombasa Governor Abdulswammad Nassir, the important meeting was convened to discuss three main items.
Meetings agenda
The agenda includes deliberating strategies on the upcoming by-elections, which the party views as critical to maintaining unity and securing victories against opponents who hope to exploit internal divisions.
They had also listed a focus on ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations and commemorating Raila Odinga’s 80th birthday achievements.
Tracking party’s ten-point
The third agenda item will assess progress on the 10-point agenda signed with the government. This review will ensure accountability and track the implementation of the party’s agreed priorities.
The development follows a formal endorsement by ODM delegates from Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homa Bay counties, announced on Friday, October 24, 2025.
The party confirmed the unanimous backing of Oburu, highlighting his experience and capability to lead.
“ODM delegates from the Counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homabay have this afternoon endorsed the Senator of Siaya County, Oburu Oginga, to succeed our departed Leader, Raila Odinga as the party leader,” the statement read.
It further noted, “They say he has experience and is capable of leading the party,” emphasising the regional consensus around his leadership.
The endorsement marks the first coordinated declaration by grassroots ODM members since Raila Odinga’s passing.
Oburu, a longtime ally and elder brother to Raila, represents a bridge to the party’s founding vision. His appointment as acting leader immediately after Raila’s demise, now cemented by the Nyanza delegates, aims to preserve the political legacy of the Odinga family within ODM.
