ODM urges calm and decorum as county elections kick off nationwide
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has called on its members and delegates to exercise restraint, respect, and decorum as the party’s county elections officially kick off across the country.
In a statement released on Monday, August 25, 2025, the Orange party emphasised the need for peaceful, transparent, and democratic processes.
“County elections have kicked off across the country. We urge delegates to conduct themselves with decorum and respect during and after the exercise,” ODM wrote on X.

However, the exercise has not kicked off in a few counties.
Busia ODM elections postponed
Busia is among the counties in which the Raila Odinga-led party postponed the elections.
In a notice issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the chairperson of the ODM National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), Emily Awita, confirmed that the elections exercise in Busia, which had been set for Monday, August 25, would not take place until further notice, noting that new dates will be shared once arrangements are finalised.
She urged ODM members and residents of Busia to remain calm and patient as the committee works on fresh timelines.
“The county delegates elections for Busia County, which had been scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, stand postponed until further notice,” Awita said in the statement.
“Fresh dates shall be duly communicated in due course. Members in the affected electoral area are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines.”
ODM election guidelines
ODM had earlier released a timetable for nationwide county delegate elections across 43 counties. In its earlier announcement, the party said polls would take place on Monday, August 25, in all counties except Nairobi, Migori, Kisumu, and Homa Bay.
“The National Elections Coordinating Committee will oversee county delegates’ elections in 43 counties on Monday, August 25, 2025,” the statement had noted. “Polling centres will be set up in designated areas.”
ODM also reminded those interested in contesting delegate positions to submit their applications through the party’s county offices. Each application must be accompanied by a registration fee, which varies depending on the role being sought.
According to the party’s guidelines, candidates for non-executive posts must pay Ksh1,000. Those applying for special categories such as women, youth, disability, and other interest group positions are required to pay Ksh2,500.
