‘ODM MPs must not be under obligation to support govt because Ruto supports Baba for AUC Chairperson’ – MP Amisi warns
By Mustafa Juma, January 11, 2025
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Members of Parliament (MPs) and members must not be under obligation to support the government because President William Ruto supports Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has warned.
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, January 11, 2025, Amisi argued that Raila is a deserving Kenyan and a globally recognised pan Africanist.
The lawmaker further argues that it should be a national geopolitical goal to always support the country’s best for international contests, and not a conditionality to opposition parties.
Amisi on Raila’s AUC candidature
The ODM lawmaker went ahead to state that Raila will represent Kenya, and President Ruto being the head of state, should always act as the country’s number one diplomat.
“Raila Odinga is a deserving Kenyan and a globally recognised pan Africanist . ODM MPs and members must not be under obligation to support the government because #Ruto supports Baba for the AUC chairperson. It must be a national geopolitical goal to always support our best for international contests and not a conditionality to opposition parties. Baba will represent Kenya, and Ruto is a president of all Kenyans and country’s no. 1 diplomat,” Amisi stated.
Amisi further stated that he will always put the government to question whenever it goes wrong since ODM as an opposition party has previously maintained that it will perform its watchdog role despite the broad-based government arrangement that is currently in place.
He also warned that the critics that have been calling him and his like-minded leaders names for not supporting the Ruto administration are only doing a deservice to the future of the Orange party.
Plot to destroy ODM
According to Amisi, the critics are destroying a decade-long social justice movement that was built through blood and sweat.
“Ministry of Foreign Affairs works for all Kenyans non partisanly. Just like not all sportsmen and women supported by the government to compete international games votes for the government, the majority are always from opposition zones. Odm party is on record that we shall carry out our opposition roles.
“I shall put the government to question where they go wrong. Those calling us names like moles ,Gachagua people ,wash wash ,drug dealers, and mara sijui rebels for not supporting Ruto are doing a deservice to the future of the party. They are destroying a decades long social justice movement built through blood and sweat,” Amisi said.
The lawmaker also warned that President Ruto will be happy to deal with an ODM that is deflated and has lost ground during the next 2027 general elections, and embrace a new outfit.
According to him, President Ruto has orchestrated a plan to completely destroy the Orange party, by embracing it in his government.
“If we are dealing with the Ruto government lets do it through a formal agreement and not from the streets. This is not Uhuru Kenyatta. This is a street smart giant. Ruto will be happy to deal with an ODM that is deflated and has lost ground and embraces a new outfit. Politics is ruthless and merciless . I am on record warning about Uhuru’s fake deep state during the last election, and now let me be on record once more warning on a plan to destroy the ODM party completely,” he argued.
