Oburu: I will take Kenyans to Canaan through Singapore
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 2, 2026Orange Democratic Movement party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has insisted that the ODM party will continue working with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and is going to talk with the government-led side to form a pact in the run for the upcoming general elections in 2027.
Speaking at a NYOTA funds disbursement programme in Kisumu on Monday, February 2, 2026, Oburu has praised the relationship between the ODM and UDA under the broad-based government, saying that it has been beneficial to work with the government and that the ODM party is looking forward to strengthening the relationship further.
“Others are saying that we are moving faster, but we are not fast. Elections will be held next year; we must start preparing ourselves, and I assure you that I will take you to Canaan through Singapore.”
“The programmes you see from the government are what Singapore started with… As we proceed, we are going to talk to UDA, and we are going to get more than what we are getting now,” Oburu stated.

ODM party has openly laid out its expectations in the ongoing political talks with President William Ruto’s UDA, with the party leader, Oburu, now saying that the party is not tribal and is ready to engage President Ruto in dialogue aimed at forging a balanced political arrangement.
Odinga’s sentiments have come at a time when the president’s side, UDA, has also hinted at working with the ODM Party ahead of the elections in a bid to seek the re-election of President Ruto, counting it a possible pre-election coalition as part of preparations for 2027.
According to Oburu, the partnership with UDA will focus on the development of the Nyanza region, and the decision to work with the government is motivated by the urge to bring about development.
He also appreciated the fact that Ruto appointed members of the ODM party to the cabinet, a move that has been beneficial to the people of the Nyanza region.
Oburu dismisses the opposition
The ODM party leader has disputed the opposition leaders who are opposed to the government’s agenda. He has called on the critics of the government to have a plan to give to the people of Kenya.
He has also called out the members of the United Opposition for campaigning in some regions, urging them to be brave enough to campaign in all regions. He has praised President Ruto for traversing the country not on campaigning but on taking developments to all the regions.
