Oburu dismisses possibility of Sifuna being ejected out of ODM

Newly installed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga has refuted assertions that the Nairobi Senator and ODM’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, will be kicked out of the Orange Party.

Speaking to a local TV station on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Siaya senator asserted that the SG remains a strong pillar of the Orange party and will remain as one.

Oburu acknowledged that the SG and other youthful politicians within ODM have occasionally expressed strong opinions on issues, but they remain part of the party.

“You saw he is the one who read our party resolution. I have talked to him, and he has no issues. He is young and among the politicians with a strong opinion. He can at times go overboard, but we are with him in the party,” he stated.

Oburu emphasised in any case of any overreach, the party will use available in-house regulations to rein in such individuals.

“He is still with us and has done nothing wrong to be removed from the party. If it so happens we have a party mechanism for dealing with such issues internally as a party,” he added.

Oburu’s sentiments on the fiery politician come amid heightened reports that the SG could be on his way out of the party, a claim following the demise of Raila Odinga.

The latest to back the assertions is former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi, who claimed that a section of elected leaders from the Nyanza region wanted the ODM official to be ejected from the political outfit after the death of Raila Odinga.

Wanted out?

Havi cited his claims on the newly found working relationship between the Oburu Odinga-led outfit and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the broad-based government formation, an arrangement Sifuna has in the past slighted.

”It is the youthful elected leaders in ODM from Luo Nyanza who have expressed discomfort with Sifuna. Raila Odinga wanted ODM to be a national party and not an ethnic party,” Havi said in a local TV interview on Monday, October 27, 2025.

”The remainder of Edwin Sifuna as a youthful leader in ODM despite persistent efforts by people to kick him out is an indicator that Raila saw himself in Edwin Sifuna,” he added.

The future conduct of the SG, as far as the party’s position goes, is days after he officially declared ODM’s position on the broad-based government following the Monday, October 27, 2025, Central Committee meeting.
