Nyamira senator blasts Ruto for empty promises, brands him a liar

Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni has called out President William Ruto for making empty promises, describing the leader’s commitments as political gimmicks rather than actionable development plans.

Speaking during a political talk show hosted by a local television station on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Omogeni criticised the president’s approach to governance, claiming his focus remains on campaigning rather than addressing the country’s pressing issues.

“The promises the president gives are just campaign gimmicks. There is no budget that has been set aside for the presidential development plan; all that he is doing is politicking. Just do an audit of the president’s diary for the last 14 days, and you will see a president who has not sat down in his office to discuss with his technocrats on how to move the country forward; his main focus is on campaign moves,” the statement read.

The senator further accused Ruto of repeatedly relaunching projects without actual completion, highlighting a development initiative in Borabu constituency.

“There is a project that was launched in 2021 in Borabu constituency, the contractor moved on site and the work has been ongoing but last year when the president visited Nyamira, he again went to Borabu and again said he is launching that project for the second time… everything he is doing is politics, he has not opened any project in Nyamira, just relaunching,” Omogeni said.

Omogeni warned that while the president enjoys immunity from prosecution, citizens should remain aware of his claims.

“The best we can do is to remind the people that the president we have is a liar, so everything he says is a lie. He has made many promises, and nothing is happening,” the statement read.

The senator also dismissed the president’s recent rhetoric of transforming Kenya from a third-world to a first-world country as unrealistic.

“I hear the president nowadays telling Kenyans he wants to transform Kenya from third world to a first world country; he can go back, sit and read history; none of those countries have followed this path of making promises from rooftops,” Omogeni said.
