Ngunjiri Wambugu explains how Ruto can regain Mt Kenya numbers ahead of 2027 polls

By , January 19, 2026

Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has explained how President William Ruto can easily regain his numbers in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Taking to his official Facebook page on the night of Sunday, January 18, 2026, Wambugu claimed that Ruto should start by meeting 15,000 people in the 10 Mt Kenya counties.

According to the former Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua’s aide, the said people will equal 150,000 delegates.

“If Ruto meets ~15k people in the 10 Mt Kenya counties, that’s 150k delegates,” Wambugu stated.

He went ahead to claim that the said delegates should then try to get 10 supporters each, which would equal 1.5 million supporters.

Moreover, Wambugu argues that if the delegates manage to garner 20 supporters each, this will translate to 3 million supporters in the entire Mt. Kenya region.

Vote rigging

The former Gachagua ally-turned-foe also warned that they will guard their votes to ensure that they are not stolen.

“If each delegate gets 10 supporters, that’s 1.5M supporters. 20 is 3M, etc. Anyway. Our vote will not be stolen!” he stated.

Ruto on his relationship with Mt Kenya

Wambugu’s remarks come days after Ruto addressed claims that he had lost the Mt. Kenya support, stating that his cordial ties with the region remain intact despite their bitter fallout with Gachagua.

Speaking in Nyeri County on Monday, January 12, 2026, Ruto added that he remains focused on delivering his agenda to the people and will not be sidetracked by critics’ talks of ‘Wantam’ and ‘Kasongo must go’.

The Head of State emphasised that the region has a clear mandate for what it wants done in different sectors, which he remains keen to fulfil in line with the promises made by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“We have people who think they can intimidate me with ‘Wantam’ and ‘Kasongo must go’ talks. I want to tell them that I am the president today because you gave me that mandate. You gave me a clear path of what you wanted us to achieve in healthcare, youth employment, the employment of teachers, and education,” he said.
