Outspoken lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has slammed Kikuyu Member of Parliament and the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, for attempting to disrupt the opposition meeting scheduled to happen in his constituency, sending a message to him that the alternative united government will go ahead and pay a visit to Kikuyu as planned at all costs.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, April 11, 2026, Njiru expressed rebellion against what he perceives as political intimidation aimed at preventing the United Alternative government from holding a meeting in the constituency.

“Let someone tell @KIMANIICHUNGWAH that we are coming to Kikuyu; it doesn’t matter whether we will leave Kikuyu DEAD or ALIVE. Kikuyu lazima tuingie,” Njiru stated.

Southern Bypass blocked in Kikuyu

Njiru’s statement comes after traffic along Nairobi’s Southern Bypass was temporarily disrupted in the morning hours of Saturday, April 11, 2026, after sections of the highway were blocked and motorists were attacked ahead of a planned political rally in Kikuyu by the opposition.

The disruption occurred hours before the United Alternative Government team, led by the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was scheduled to hold a political rally in Kikuyu Constituency under his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), with the event set for the afternoon of April 11, 2026.

The incident comes amid heightened political exchanges between political leaders in the region, including a letter dated April 10, 2026, from National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

The letter raised concerns over security arrangements in Kikuyu ahead of the rally and referenced previous incidents of unrest and property damage in the constituency.

Ichung’wah cited the past destruction of public offices and private property in 2024 and 2025 and called for enhanced police deployment to safeguard residents and infrastructure.

He also pointed to intelligence reports indicating planned mobilisation of groups from several counties converging in Kikuyu.

Gachagua’s camp responded with its communication to the Inspector General, raising concerns over possible disruption of the rally and calling for security protection to ensure the event proceeds without interference.
