Nabii Nabwera advises Ruto on how to compensate for political ground lost in Mt Kenya
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 22, 2026Lugari Member of Parliament Nabil Nabwera has outlined what President William Ruto should do to compensate for the political ground he has lost in the Mt Kenya region despite enjoying overwhelming support there during the 2022 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with K24 TV on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Nabwera said the president’s best strategy is to strengthen his support in other regions of the country, particularly Western Kenya and Nyanza.
According to the legislator, Ruto should first consolidate the ODM strongholds, arguing that the president has already made significant inroads in some of those regions.

“The president has to consolidate ODM strongholds. He has to consolidate the coast, and he’s doing very well at the coast, by the way. He has to consolidate Nyanza. He’s doing very well in Luo Nyanza. He has to work in Kisii, Nyanza. He has to consolidate the West and also work on the North Eastern region, which is doing pretty well, before consolidating the Rift Valley,” Nabwera said.
The MP argued that if the president succeeds in winning over Western Kenya while maintaining his growing influence in Luo Nyanza, he will be able to replace the votes he has lost in the Mt Kenya region.
“Now, the gap left by Mt Kenya should be filled by Western Kenya, including Luo Nyanza. So, if he gets Western Kenya and gets Luo Nyanza, he’s able to fill that particular gap,” he added.
Sifuna’s popularity in Luo Nyanza
This comes a day after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna dismissed the broad-based government’s influence in Luo Nyanza, insisting that the Linda Mwananchi movement enjoys greater popularity in the region than President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview with local media stations on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the outspoken former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary-general argued that the region has rejected the “Tutam” mantra and instead embraces the “Wantam” slogan.
Linda Mwananchi Kisumu rally
Sifuna defended the growing influence of the Linda Mwananchi movement, citing the massive crowds that attended its recent rally in Kisumu. He maintained that the turnout was organic and demonstrated that residents of Luo Nyanza are firmly behind the movement and do not want President Ruto to secure a second term.
“Hata uko Luo Nyanza, you will be very surprised; hakuna mtashangaa sana. Hakuna vile Ruto atashinda linda mwanachi huko Luo Nyanza; hiyo mambo ya tutam ni propaganda,” Sifuna argued.
